Trust me, to write this article took a lot of motivation on my end. I tend to procrastinate and if I have to choose between doing the hard or easy task, I will take the easy one, get it done asap and take a nap after that.
But life don't work that way. As a freelancer, I can't procrastinate all the time. If not, tasks will start piling on my end and I don't meet my deadlines. So I have to find ways to keep myself going and motivated to do what I need to and beyond. Here are some tips that I inculcate to keep myself motivated and moving.
"3 tasks a day" rule
Before you go to bed every night, plan 3 tasks for you to do the next day. It could be anything, from cooking lunch for the family to doing laundry to any work-related stuffs to going for a run to spending time doing your hobbies. Any 3 tasks that is urgent and major for you. And set out to get those done. When you managed to clear all the tasks, the feeling of accomplishment will be there to greet you. Continue practicing the "3 tasks a day" rule everyday. There will be times you will not be able to complete all 3. But don't feel discouraged. Pat yourself on the back for getting something done. Eventually, you will be able to do more than 3 tasks in one day.
Reward yourself
Shopping and food are the best ways to reward myself after every task. Other times, I will take time out and play games on my phone. It helps me de-stress after a very intense task or workload. So find something that you can reward yourself with. A little chocolate, watching an episode of that K-drama or just lose yourself in social media for a short while.
Be positive and optimistic
One of the things we don't get things done is because we don't believe in the outcome. Negative thoughts tend to sway us away from our purpose. So try your best to remain positive and optimistic about what you are doing. Remind yourself of the reasons why you need to do your tasks. These reasons are your driving forces to keep you moving and staying positive and optimistic. Alternatively, you may want to place positive affirmation around your house or workplace like posters or books. They will constantly remind you to push any negative thoughts away and to continue to slay your day.
These are the things that I personally do to stay motivated and I procrastinate lesser now. I do have my off days but I make sure to get back to my routine once I am better. Hope these tips will help you in more ways than one!
